Book of the Feast of the Dead of the Windowless Hall is a Phantom Book used by Hugh to save Hal by immobilizing the hostile zombies created by the Book of Atonement. It’s present in the Book of Atonement story.

It’s a Phantom Book written in a foreign language.[1]

Background[]

It’s a lost Phantom Book from the ancient Aztec civilization. It’s kept inside the Labyrinth Library.[1]

Powers[]

According to Hugh, the Phantom Book leads the dead to the underworld. The Book of the Feast of the Dead of the Windowless Hall was used to stop the zombies created by the Book of Atonement. They became immobilized, their bodies lost all energy and they collapsed.[1]

Plot[]

Hal had left his staff behind and was fighting the zombies barehanded inside the subway station. A terrorist had used the Book of Atonement to turn passersby into monsters. Hal soon is overwhelmed. His bones are about to snap from the zombies’ powerful grip. Fortunately, Hugh shows up, reading a book in a foreign language. He recites with a strange but pleasing melody, as if he's conducting a religious celebration. The living dead stop moving. They fall to the floor, powerless. After saving Hal, Hugh closes the book, smiling. Hal does not take lightly the fact that a Phantom Book was used to help him.[1]

Trivia[]

  • The Book of the Feast of the Dead of the Windowless Hall may be associated with the Day of the Dead, a Mexican multi-day holiday celebrated throughout Mexico, where family and friends gather to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died, and to support their spiritual journey. The origin of the holiday may relate to an ancient Aztec festival dedicated to the goddess Mictecacihuatl, queen of the underworld. She and her husband Mictlāntēcutli, the god of the dead, dwell in a windowless house.[2][3]
