"Dantalian’s School Festival" is the 16th chapter of The Mystic Archives of Dantalian Dalian Days manga.

The girls are finishing the preparations for the school festival.[1]

Summary[]

Priscilla is checking the preparations for the school festival. Margaret tells her that the costumes and set are almost completed. With the start of the second semester, the students are busy for the event celebrating the 200th anniversary of the school.

Priscilla is surprised to see the work Cecil has done for the set. Cecil’s talent was recognized by Fine Arts Teacher Pierre, so she became the art director of the event. Cecil pulls a lever to show the absurd mechanisms she installed in the set. Priscilla furiously tells her to stop building anything that is not in the script.

Dalian screams in anger while complaining about the dirt. During the rehearsal, the students admire Dalian for her acting. Although Dalian doesn’t like to be a minor character, she feels good swearing at another person on stage. Priscilla is having fun while preparing the event. She’s happy to see Dalian get along with the other girls.

Teacher Oliver Smith proposes a short break. She tells Priscilla to help with the tea. Dalian notices Hugh behind the curtains, waiting for her. He’s wearing traveling clothes and holding a book. Priscilla tells her that they will continue the practice soon, but Dalian affirms that playtime is over. Dalian returns the notebook containing Priscilla’s novel. Dalian thanks Priscilla for the story. Dalian walks away, leaving a puzzled Priscilla behind. Priscilla tells Margaret and Cecil that Dalian left. Margaret asks who’s Dalian.[1]

Trivia[]

  • The schoolgirls plan to play Cinderella[1], a folk tale embodying an element of unjust oppression and triumphant reward. The story recounted by the Greek geographer Strabo sometime between around 7 BC and AD 23 is usually considered to be the earliest known variant of the Cinderella story. One of the most popular versions of Cinderella was written in French by Charles Perrault in 1697.[2]
    • Dalian is practicing to play one of the stepsisters who abuse Cinderella.[1]
    • For the set, Cecil builds the carriage that takes Cinderella to the ball.[1]
