Evelyn was one of the Marquise of Asquith's maids. She appears in the Vignette of Eternal Twilight story.

Background[]

The Marquise uses the Vignette of Eternal Twilight to exchange the lives of victims for eternal youth. Her daughter and maids also receive a young appearance. Evelyn is one of the maids. She was tasked to bring Adam Marchbanks into a secret room, where he can enter the Vignette of Eternal Twilight and become a sacrifice.[1]

Personality[]

Evelyn always obeys her master, even when the order involves attracting a man and make him a sacrifice for the Marquise. She easily charms private detective Marchbanks, although she seems embarrassed. Evelyn knows about the power of the Vignette of Eternal Twilight.[1]

Appearance[]

She wears a typical maid apron dress. Marchbanks affirms that she’s beautiful and has large breasts.[1]

Plot[]

Like Hugh and Dalian, Marchbanks is also looking for the Vignette of Eternal Twilight inside the Asquith castle. Marchbanks affirms that beautiful women reveal the most important information. He walks away. A few seconds later, he grabs a maid by the waist.

At the library, Hugh finds a secret passage. Next to a thick metal door, he finds Marchbanks passionately hugging a maid. The maid quickly steps back. She straightens her apron dress and lowers her head in embarrassment. Dawson enters the room and opens the Vignette of Eternal Twilight. The Phantom Book suddenly disappears. The frightened maid shakes her head and turns pale. She wonders why her master had brought her to that place. Marchbanks tries to hug her, but the maid runs out of the room. Moments later, the ceiling falls, crushing Dawson to death.

Hugh and the others reach a garden. They find themselves in a place slightly different from before. The other guests have disappeared. Time has stopped. The front gate of the fortress vanished. Marchbanks believes that Evelyn must know something about it. Harban tells Marchbanks to look for her. Inside the castle, they find Evelyn and the Marquise, who looks as young as her daughter Lyfia. Marchbanks calls for the maid, but he’s ignored. The maid runs to her master. Evelyn had carried out the order. She had taken Marchbanks to the secret room. Now, Evelyn asks the Marquise for mercy. The maid wants to get out of that place.

The Marquise waves her hand, showing no interest for the maid. Several grim reaper dolls appear behind Evelyn. The maid starts to speak in a trembling voice. She suddenly stops, looking in horror as a scythe impales her through the chest. Harban attacks the grim reaper, but the creature sends him flying with the scythe, the maid still stuck on the blade. The maid’s body slides to the floor. Marchbanks screams her name. He runs to her, only to have his shoulder ripped open. Later, Marchbanks sobs, blaming himself for Evelyn’s death.

It’s revealed that the Marquise uses the Vignette of Eternal Twilight to kill people and gain eternal youth. She shares the youth with her daughter and maids. Marchbanks has trouble to understand that Evelyn was only using him. She had convinced him to go to the secret room, where he would become a victim of the Marquise. The Marquise is seen with the appearance of a little girl after absorbing Dawson and Evelyn’s life force.

Harban reveals himself as Mithril, the Phantom Book Thief. After the world created by the Vignette of Eternal Twilight is destroyed, Mithril laments for the deaths of Dawson and Evelyn. If Mithril had acted more discreetly, they may have survived.[1]
