The Princess is a royalty about to be crowned as queen of a small country. However, her younger sister plans to intervene. The character appears in the Book of Sleep fragment.

Background[]

She’s the princess of a small country surrounded by forests and lakes, at the foot of an old snow-covered mountain. She has a sister two years younger than her. The princess is about to celebrate her 16th birthday, when she’ll officially inherit the throne to reign with a young prince from a neighboring country.[1]

Personality[]

The princess has a gentle personality. Although not very smart, she’s loved by everyone in the royal palace. According to her sister, the princess doesn’t know about politics. Supporters are only attracted by the princess’ smiles. The princess has everything that her younger sister wants. The princess seems to love her sister. It's said that the princess always wakes up early. She’s carefree, never noticing her sister’s sinister thoughts. Instead of reading, the princess prefers books with many illustrations.[1]

Appearance[]

She’s 15 years old, about to turn 16. Nothing else is revealed about her appearance.[1]

Plot[]

The princess will soon be queen at her 16th birthday. But her sister wishes to change that. The sister tells Rasiel that she hates the princess. The princess doesn’t know about politics, but even so she has the support of everyone in the royal palace. The sister would be a better queen. Rasiel tells the sister to kill the princess. The sister thinks for a moment, but eventually rejects the idea. Soon after, Rasiel gives the Book of Sleep to the sister.

One day before the princess’ birthday, the sister gives her the Book of Sleep as a gift. The princess hugs her sister, grateful. The sister tells the princess that the book will make her sleep soundly. That way, the princess will be ready for tomorrow’s coronation. The princess smiles, saying that she wouldn't wait to read it.

The next day, everyone at the royal palace was waiting for the princess. She usually wakes up early. The sister reveals to the king that the princess had read a Phantom Book, and now she will sleep for one hundred years. Inside the princess’ bedroom, the despaired king and his servants see the princess sleeping. There’s a book at the bedside. When the sister was celebrating her victory, she hears a small yawn. The princess wakes up, rubbing her sleepy eyes. She looks confused at the people surrounding her bed. The princess thanks her sister for the book, smiling. The princess had noticed that the book has no illustrations, which made her quickly fall asleep. The princess never read a single line from the Phantom Book.

The princess’ brilliant coronation followed. Everyone was pleased with the new queen.[1]
